Major Orders are the regular events that drive the narrative of the Galactic War in Helldivers 2, with each success and failure shaping the direction as Super Earth battles the Automatons and Terminids. Unfortunately, when the Major Orders focus on the Automatons, they often result in failures due to more players preferring to fight the Terminids, and this time it cost the community a new Stratagem.
Following the Helldivers 2 community failing the latest Major Order, Super Earth left players with a message saying “FAILURE.” Usually, a long message explains how the outcome of the Major Order has affected the story.
However, in the Dispatches section of the Galactic War map, Super Earth did provide an update stating that the new Orbital Napalm Barrage Stratagem will be delayed saying,
“Despite heroic conservation efforts, and millions of Automaton militants recycled into useful scrap metals, the Helldivers were unable to secure sufficient resources to rectify supply shortages. Fleetwide distribution of the Orbital Napalm Barrage will be delayed.”
It just seems like Super Earth wanted to call us failures, that stings a little bit I must say.
This was a surprising Major Order to fail, especially as the reward was a Stratagem that would benefit players who prefer to fight against the Terminids. The previous Major Order called for the Helldivers 2 community to eradicate 750,000 Terminids and 5 million Bile Titans, which was completed with more than one day to spare. The good news is that it looks like we will still receive the Orbital Napalm Barrage, it will just be delayed for a while due to players not gathering enough scrap metal to be able to manufacture them. Instead, they will likely be offered during a future Major Order.
Despite the requirements for the Major Order being manageable, Helldivers 2 has been seeing a steady decline in players following the Escalation of Freedom update, dropping to below 10,000 concurrent players on a near-daily basis. Arrowhead Game Studios are currently hard at work on a 60-day roadmap that aims to fix many of the issues currently hindering the game. The next update is set to focus on buffing weapons, with Arrowhead CCO Johan Pilestedt claiming that it will shake up the meta.
