As part of the most recent Helldivers 2 update, Arrowhead added a free cape for all players. If you still haven’t received the cape, it’s because it’s being released in dosages rather than to everyone at once. This freebie is a commemorative gift to players for winning the Battle of Super Earth, in which even a Chinese news station celebrated the comradery between Super Earth soldiers from China and the USA. While this free cape is great, it appears another Helldivers 2 free reward might be inbound, and it’s something that was promised over a year ago.
Helldivers 2 dev teases free reward promised over a year ago
While Arrowhead have just delivered the commemorative cape for winning the Battle of Super Earth, we’re still waiting for the developer to gift players the free review bomb cape that was promised as far back as May 2024.
The review bomb cape was initially conceived as an idea in May of last year, it was then promised to still be coming in June, and since then it has only ever briefly been mentioned in messages with the community on Discord.
While nothing is certain, it appears that the review bomb cape could finally be imminent. On Discord, QA Lead, JoJo, was asked about the cape following the release of the Battle of Super Earth commemorative accessory. JoJo confirmed that Arrowhead are “cooking” with the review bomb cape, and teased players to “watch this space”.
This seems to hint that the long-awaited freebie is inbound, but there’s still no date for when it will arrive. It could feasibly be next week, the week after, or even still a month from now.
If you’ve forgotten why Arrowhead were designing the reward and giving it away for free, it was to act as an apology for the whole PSN debacle. Following the backlash and severe review bombing, Sony decided to not make a PSN account mandatory for HD2. Also, it took over a year since the game’s release back in February 2024, but PlayStation has just recently removed controversial region restrictions for HD2 on PC.
