Arrowhead released a new update for Helldivers 2 yesterday, and, as per usual, the patch included a list of known issues that will be fixed in the near future. As part of these known issues, the developer informed fans that they are focused on fixing the most divisive feature in Helldivers 2. Arrowhead is currently testing different adjustments, and they are proceeding cautiously as changes “could have a significant impact on the player experience, both positively and negatively”.

Make sure to check out the update 1.001.202 patch notes to see the latest fixes from Arrowhead. In addition, a recent leak has revealed terrifying automatons set to decimate players, and the Arrowhead CCO has publicly declared he wants a crossover “that’d be the sickest thing imaginable“.

While yesterday’s update was relatively minor, it did promise good news for the future depending on which side of the fence you sit on in regard to ragdolling. It’s the most divisive feature in the game, and Arrowhead has revealed that fixes are on the way.

Helldivers 2 is fixing “excessive ragdolling”

In the Helldivers 2 update 1.001.202 patch notes, Arrowhead revealed that “excessive ragdolling” is a top priority to be fixed. There is an acknowledgement that ragdolling has been causing players to feel “helplessness and frustration”.

There’s no ETA for when the feature will be fixed, but they are “currently testing” the following adjustments and improvements:

  • Allowing players to remain prone after ragdolling when there’s no directional movement input.
  • Enabling the use of stims while ragdolling.
  • Addressing situations where explosions ragdoll players from behind cover.
  • Further adjustments to enemy behavior and projectiles.
  • Being considered prone when ragdolling on the ground.
  • Players are unable to emote when flying through the air.
  • Stratagem balls bounce unpredictably off cliffs and some spots.
  • The Reinforced Scout Strider does not telegraph it’s rocket attacks.
  • We are investigating how we can further improve the play experience against this enemy.

While fixes for “excessive ragdolling” are in development, it’s important to note that Arrowhead “are moving forward cautiously” because they “recognize that changes in this area could have a significant impact on the player experience, both positively and negatively”.

Although we don’t know when fixes will arrive, the fact it’s happening behind-the-scenes is good news for players. On the Helldivers subreddit, there are numerous posts complaining about ragdolling. Players feel that it results in losing control of their character, and this consequently results in deaths that feel cheap and unfair.
