The Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom update brought the Galactic War into Arc 2 as the story continues to evolve, as well as bring many changes to the game including new planets, missions, and quality-of-life changes that weren’t all met positively. In particular, changes to fire and nerfs to fire weapons was met with backlash and many players have demanded that the changes be reverted.
The Helldivers 2 Community Manager Baskinator took to Discord to reveal that the team is looking at the best course of action to take following the backlash surrounding changes to fire in the game saying,
“We have heard your feedback about our change to fire and how it has affected flamethrowers, and we appreciate our community’s continued honesty about how they feel about Helldivers 2. We’re now having a lot of internal discussions about the best course of action.”
A player poll has also been created to gauge whether players are enjoying the new Escalation of Freedom update. As of writing, the results are:
- It’s good – 28%
- It’s bad – 30%
- I’m neutral/not sure – 41%
Despite looking at the possibility of reverting the changes, the Freedom’s Flame Warbond, won’t be delayed. In fact, it is available now. As with other Warbonds, Freedom’s Flame costs 1,000 Super Credit to purchase, which can either be earned in-game or purchase through the Helldivers 2.
The new Freedom’s Flame Warbond finally brings fire-resistant armor to Helldivers 2 along with new fire weapons such as the Cookout Shotgun. This comes after months of requests from the community to make planets such as Hellmire more manageable. Because of this, the decision to change how fire works made little sense to the community, so hopefully we will see it return to how it was pre-Escalation of Freedom.
The Escalation of Freedom update has shaken up the game and now the Freedom’s Flame continues to further change Helldivers 2.
