Helldivers 2 has a lot of plans for the future. Arrowhead is working on stuff behind-the-scenes, and the game is in a much better state to receive new content and features thanks to the massively successful balance changes in September and October. While there are a lot of dream features players have, the Helldivers 2 CCO has responded to the possibility of increasing the player limit for “massive PvE battles”.

As for what is officially on the way, Arrowhead has told fans they are fixing the game’s most divisive feature, but they are moving forward cautiously as it may impact the player experience both “positively and negatively”. In addition, Arrowhead are looking to revamp jet packs. We also know the Illuminate are eventually arriving, and there are leaks that have unearthed terrifying automatons.

While more fixes and balance changes are always good, something fans are craving is new content and features. Some players would also like to see the squad limit increased from four, but, unfortunately, it’s unlikely to happen.

Helldivers 2 CCO responds to increasing player limit

On X, Arrowhead CCO and Helldivers 2 creative director, Pilestedt, has been responding to queries from fans. After publicly stating they want a crossover “that’d be the sickest thing imaginable,” Pilestedt said he would also love to work with Warhammer and Aliens, but, at the same time, does not want to dilute HD2.

Most of the back-and-forth between fans and the CCO is about crossovers, however, one user asked if the development team have “thought about adding massive PvE battles”. The specific example used is “Something like 20-30 players (maybe even more) all in the same space fighting hordes of enemies”.

In response, Pilestedt admitted it’s an idea that “comes up pretty often at the studio”. However, although it’s not completely ruled out, it seems unlikely to ever materialize because of “engine limitations”.

Although not elaborated on by Pilestedt, Helldivers 2 YouTuber, Glitch Unlimited, chimed in “They [Arrowhead] mentioned in the past that the engine currently struggles to increase the number of enemies on the battlefield, so I’d image increasing player count would make it even more strenuous on the engine”.

It is an interesting proposal that would be massively exciting if it ever happened, but the likelihood is very slim because of the game’s engine and its limitations. Still, it’s good that such an idea has been acknowledged as something discussed within the confines of Arrowhead offices.
