Former Free Radical developers – now at mobile game company Crash Lab – have revealed the studio had been working on an HD version of hit FPS TimeSplitters 2 back in 2008, but the project shut down along with the studio.

“We had an ‘HD’ downloadable version of TimeSplitters 2 in development at Free Radical in 2008,” ex-Goldeneye programmer Steve Ellis explained to NES. “I don’t know what happened to that but yes, I’d love to see it released at some point.

“Maybe it could be the catalyst that is required in order to raise enough interest in TimeSplitters 4 that a publisher might want to fund it.”

With TimeSplitters 4 regularly mentioned, perhaps Ellis is right – a successful HD remake of TimeSplitters 2 could drum up interest for a once popular franchise.
