The Voice of God in Halo multiplayer, Jeff Steitzer, has spent more than two decades providing the series with one of the most iconic voices in video game history. As the series has branched off into books, comics, TV shows and even movies, Steitzer has been waiting for Halo Studios to give him a chance at just one thing: audiobooks.

In an interview on the VideoGamer Podcast, Steitzer revealed that he’s never been asked to record an audiobook for the Halo series. While books in the series have been read by talented performers—including Keith Szarabajka for Halo: Epitaph—Steitzer has never been given the chance to record for the series’ expanded universe.

Jeff Steitzer wants to record a Halo audiobooks

Speaking on the latest edition of the podcast, Steitzer explained that he’s been “waiting” to be asked to record an audiobook for the series. With no knowledge of any future Halo project, the veteran voice actor and stage performer would love to be a part of the series’ wider universe.

“I kept waiting for them to contact me. I’m here, I’m ready, I’m available to narrate Halo audiobooks. For some reason, I have not been approached, I don’t know why,” Steitzer told VideoGamer.

“They keep me in a closet, they let me out every three years, I do a recording, they send me back.

HALO VOICE ACTOR JEFF STEITZER

With the newly-rebranded Halo Studios even releasing smaller audio dramas on their YouTube channel, Steitzer joked that the Halo developer’s keep him on a “need to know basis”.

“I didn’t even know about the YouTube channel,” the actor explained. “They keep me in a closet, they let me out every three years, I do a recording, they send me back. I don’t know what’s happening in the world—it’s crazy.”

In the interview, Steitzer also explained his surprise that he was never asked to return as a small Easter egg in the Halo TV show. While the series’ first season included a nod to Halo-themed web series Red vs Blue, Steitzer was sadly never asked.

“Hey, if Whoopie Goldberg can run a cantina, why can’t I?” the actor joked. “Have Master Chief come in for a drink being depressed, like, ‘I’ve lost my uniform’ and I’m like ‘Go out there and finish the fight’, but nobody asked for my opinion.”

While Steitzer’s role as the Halo multiplayer announcer isn’t as front-facing as Steve Downes’ Master Chief, the voice lines of “double kill” and thousands of others have likely been heard billions of times more. Over the past few years—as games have attempted to add other announcers to the games’ multiplayer modes—fans have screamed for their adoration of Steitzer’s voice, and it would be great to hear him narrate upcoming Halo books.

With the Halo expanded universe still set to continue after the release of Infinite with more novels—Empty Throne releases this February—Steitzer will hopefully be asked to narrate more content for the series in the future.
