Halo 4, which boasts an engine with vast improvements over that used for Reach, will run at native 720p, a first for a new game in the FPS series on Xbox 360.
Halo: Reach runs at an ever-so-slightly sub-720p native resolution 1152×720, itself an improvement over Halo 3, which ran at a further sub-HD native resolution of 1152×640.
Halo franchise development director Frank O’Connor responded to fan questions on NeoGAF to set the record straight.
“It is native 720p,” confirmed O’Connor after one poster claimed gameplay footage seen in the ViDoq was sub HD.
He added: “It shares no engine tech with Anniversary. Almost every single system, audio, rendering, lighting, you name it, has been either radically overhauled or rewritten from the ground up.
“At this point saying it’s based on a previous version of the engine basically speaks to a few pieces of code.”
