Disney Interactive Studios has announced the development of Ultimate Band, a new music experience in which Wii and DS owners get to live the dream of becoming a rock star.

The game won’t ship with any instrument peripherals, instead relying on the Wii controllers and DS stylus. Disney is working with some of the biggest names in rock, alternative, pop, emo and indie rock music, ensuring the game features a wide range of music from current hits to classics.

Ultimate Rock Band for Wii will allow players to live the life of a rock star, by advancing their career and popularity from playing in a garage to performing in front of an international audience at world famous venues. Using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, players will be able to play the drums, bass guitar, lead guitar or take on the role of the lead singer. The entire band will also be customisable.

The Nintendo DS version is a rhythm-based music game featuring a recording studio. Players will be able to jam to current and classic songs using the drums, lead guitar, bass or rhythm guitar and create their own original songs using the DS touchscreen. It will be possible to lay down tracks for each instrument and apply “creative” mixing effects. Ultimate Band for DS will also feature Disney’s DGamer, enabling players to engage with others in a secure online community.

Ultimate Band is scheduled for release this autumn.
