Speaking in a Major Nelson podcast Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices division senior vice president Don Mattrick seemed to indicate that the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV will feature multiplayer gameplay exclusive to the platform.
“[GTA IV] is an amazing piece of software and I’m really excited with its downloadable content and online multiplayer support. Again, that’s something that’s unique to 360,” said Mattrick.
The ambiguous statement had been seen by many as confirmation that the PS3 version of the game would not feature online play. However, this morning Rockstar Games has denied the reports, telling Videogaming247: “As we’ve said previously, both versions of the game will have an online multiplayer component.”
However, this doesn’t rule out the possibility that the Xbox 360 version will feature multiplayer game modes unique to the platform.
Grand Theft Auto IV is scheduled for release on Xbox 360 and PS3 on April 29. For more on the game head over to our recent GTA4 blowout and look out for hands-on impressions later this month.
