GTA 6 is going to be one of the biggest events around the world when it finally comes out. It’s the most-anticipated game of all time, and recent Rockstar job listings suggest the developer is getting ready for a huge marketing campaign all over the world with full confidence in the game’s release date. While a lot of nations will receive the game at launch without issue, there now appears the possibility GTA 6 might be able to release in previously banned regions “without push back” thanks to GTA 5 finally getting approval after 12-years.

GTA 6 might be able to release in banned regions at launch “without push back”

As shared by reliable Grand Theft Auto source Ben, videotechuk on X, GTA 5 has finally been approved for release in Saudi Arabia. It has been given an age rating of 21+, and it is coming on July 17th. This is huge as GTA 5 first came out in 2013, and it was banned in Saudi Arabi back in July 2018.

In addition to Ben, PlayStation has confirmed GTA 5 has received a 21+ age rating for the Kingdom of Saudi and the United Arab Emirates.

As for why GTA 5 was banned in Saudi Arabia, it was because of its depictions of violence, sexual content, and drug use. There were originally claims that it was banned because “two children were driven to kill themselves after playing an online game,” but this was debunked by gamesindustrybiz.

While it’s great that players in Saudi Arabia and UAE will finally be able to officially pick up GTA 5, Ben also stated this might allow GTA 6 to “release in SA without push back”. However, if this were to happen, “expect a 21+ rating”.

In addition to Saudi Arabia, there is the misconception that GTA 5 was banned in Australia back in 2014. However, this was only a couple of stores, Target and Kmart, choosing not to sell the game because of alleged complaints from customers, as reported by the BBC.

Hopefully when GTA 6 comes out it’s able to launch in as many countries as possible without issue. It’s going to be the biggest video game launch of all time, and it’s a moment in history everyone will want to celebrate and collectively enjoy.
