Rockstar may have advised gamers not to install the GTA 5 “play” disc for Xbox 360 because of performance related issues, but the tech wizards over on Digital Foundry have discovered a solution for those who want a disc-less experience.

You should carry out the mandatory install to the Xbox 360 hard drive as normal, but when you go to install the “play” disc you should do so to a USB flash drive.

Ensuring the game data and play disc are installed to separate drives allegedly eradicates texture pop-in encountered as a result of the reading bottleneck brought about when installing both discs to the hard drive.

GTA 5 is out now for Xbox 360 and PS3.
