Irish grandfather Eric Nolan from Tyrellstown, Dublin has refused to accept HMV’s decision to decline payment using store gift vouchers, walking out of an HMV on Henry Street with three games he didn’t pay for.

Mr Nolan had bought his grandson a €40 HMV gift voucher for Christmas, with which he planned to buy three games. However, the store is no longer accepting vouchers after entering into administration.

“Somebody has made a conscious decision not to pay out on vouchers and it’s despicable,” Mr Nolan told the Irish Independent.

Mr Nolan didn’t quite have enough in vouchers to cover the €46.80 cost of Euro Truck Simulator 2, The Sims 3 Town Life, and Rail Simulator priced, but plans to post the voucher plus the extra €6.80 to the HMV store.

“We are a nation of sheep – but I was determined to win this,” Mr Nolan said.

“HMV have taken hundreds of thousands of euro from the Irish people this Christmas and we shouldn’t put up with it.”
