Bethesda’s downloadable content for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has been some of the best of 2006, but it’s also caused a few headlines for the wrong reasons. The most infamous premium download being the Horse Armour Pack, which angered gamers already displeased at the concept of paid for downloads.

Depending on how you view Bethesda’s output so far then, the news that a previous download is to be given away for free will either come as a great surprise or the kind of thing you expected from such a company. The Mehrunes’ Razor downloadable content cost 250 Microsoft Points on its release in June 2006, but From December 22 through December 31 you’ll be able to download the pack from Xbox Live Marketplace for free.

Be warned that the content will return to its original price on January 1, and the special Christmas promotion does not apply to the PC version.
