The Fortnite storm just received one of its biggest updates! This is arguably the most important mechanic in the game, as you need to avoid it and watch its movements. Interestingly, Epic Games just changed the storm, making it unable to close in specific regions. However, this is likely only a temporary measure, and we expect the storm to go back to normal soon.
The storm has gone through many updates over the past few years, from storm sickness to moving zones. The latest Fortnite change is very important, so you need to be careful when picking your landing spot and choosing your rotations.
The storm in Fortnite can no longer close in the desert biome
With the release of Fortnite Chapter 5 – Season 3, Epic Games added another desert biome to the island. The biome has several great landing spots, from Sandy Steppes to Brutal Beachhead. It also has Slurp Cacti, which turned out to be the reason for the latest change. Because of this item, the storm no longer closes in the desert biome.
As you are probably aware, you can use the Slurp Cactus to heal yourself. At first, destroying a cactus would remove it permanently from the game. However, Epic then buffed the item, making it respawn in the same location. While this is a great change, it also caused a big issue, as players started abusing it to get easy victories.
Destroying the Slurp Cactus grants 30 Effective Health, which is what some players abused to do heal-offs in the storm. Even though this item is not supposed to respawn in the storm, its abundance makes it easy to abuse it. When combined with other healing items, such as Medkits, cacti granted easy victories without combat.
The latest hotfix makes it impossible for the storm to close in the desert biome. Due to this, you need to avoid this area late in the game, as the safe zone will never spawn there. Make sure to use this to your advantage next time you get to the late game, and you may end up getting a Victory Royale.
