Fortnite kicks off Rainbow Royale 2022 event with new free items

Epic Games has kicked off the 2022 iteration of the now annual tradition of the Rainbow Royale event in Fortnite.

The event is a celebration of the games LGBTQIA community, and kicked off at 8pm ET on August 31, that was in the early hours of 1am UK time September 1.

Similar to last year’s celebration, there’s a brand new bunch of cosmetics given away for free to all players in the game’s Item Store.

This year’s free items can all be grabbed right now. Just head into the Item Shop, and you’ll find them in the catalogue with a price of 0 V-Bucks. They include:

  • The Dip Emote
  • Every Heart Emoticon
  • Prismatic Keepsakes Spray
  • Say It Proud Lobby Music Track
  • Mazy and the Echoes Loading Screen
  • Rainbow Royale 2021 Loading Screen

And if you missed last year’s free items – not to worry, as they’re available to throw into your basket too.

  • Wild Rainbow Wrap
  • Vibrant Boogie Spray
  • Vibrant Heart Spray
  • Vibrant Llama Spray
  • Vibrant Star Spray

Fortnite Rainbow Royale 2022 – Rainbow Crossroads, Play Your Way Challenges & Rainbow Radio

In addition, a special island has also been created for the event. Rainbow Crossroads is packed full of activities for you and some friends to take part in, including kart racing, a photography studio and more. It’s in the Discover tab, or use the code 0487-8528-5944.

Visiting the island will also net you the opportunity to complete the Play Your Way quests this week. Doing so will earn you the free Kaleido-Crusher Pickaxe, Cuddle Kickflip Back Bling and more.

Finally, if all that wasn’t enough, this year’s Rainbow Royale will also see the debut of Rainbow Radio on September 8.

This special station will be broadcast in game, and feature hits from featured artists in the LGBTQIA+ community.

Names confirmed include Lady Gaga, Janelle Monae, Lil Nas X, Todrick Hall, King Princess and Kim Petras, all hosted by special guest radio DJ Matteo Lane.
