After an exhaustive four-year legal battle, Epic Games has scored a historic victory against Apple, opening the way for Fortnite’s triumphal return to the U.S. iOS App Store next week. The battle, which began in 2020 when Epic evaded Apple’s 30% in-app purchase tax with its own payment mechanism, resulted in Fortnite’s expulsion from the platform and a high-stakes litigation clash.

A recent US District Court decision found Apple in contempt of a 2021 injunction, accusing the tech behemoth of an “obvious cover-up” and requiring cooperation with third-party payment methods. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney welcomed the judgment as a victory for developers, announcing Fortnite’s return to iOS and proposing a “peace deal” to expand the court’s verdict globally, potentially ending all lawsuits if Apple agrees.

In the midst of this, a Fortnite leak has now thrilled fans as the iconic Tart Tycoon skin, a sarcastic swipe at Apple represented as a tycoon with an apple-shaped head unveiled during the #FreeFortnite movement, is expected to return. Here’s what we know about it.

Fortnite is bringing back iconic Tart Tycoon cup to celebrate iOS release

Fortnite fans are ecstatic as recent leaks indicate the return of the legendary Tart Tycoon Cup and its beloved Tart Tycoon cosmetic, which are linked to the game’s upcoming iOS relaunch in the United States next week. The Tart Tycoon quickly became a fan favorite following its original release through the Tart Tycoon Cup.

According to leaks, Epic Games has refreshed advertising artwork for the event in celebration of Fortnite’s comeback to the App Store following a four-year legal battle with Apple. The leaks, discovered by reliable Fortnite insiders such as HYPEX, indicate that the Tart Tycoon Cup will be a free-to-enter event, with players able to unlock the Tart Tycoon cosmetic at no cost.

The tournament is likely to have competitive lobbies, with top performances getting the skin and potentially other awards like exclusive cosmetics. Epic’s decision to reintroduce the skin is consistent with CEO Tim Sweeney’s lighthearted criticism of Apple, particularly after a court order forced Apple to accept third-party payment systems.

Leaks also hint at a new “Pie Patron” skin, which is teased as a post-litigation treat, adding to the excitement. As Fortnite prepares to take over iPhones once more, the Tart Tycoon’s comeback is a sly homage to Epic’s win while also providing a great offer for players.
