The release of Blitz Royale has proven to be a massive success for Epic Games. This fast-paced mode, which was added with the latest update on Wednesday, has dominated the game so far. The new mode has quickly become the most popular, overtaking both Battle Royale and Zero Build. Millions of players have played Blitz Royale so far, and it seems that Epic has hit the jackpot with it.
The new mode is based on Blitz, a limited-time game mode from Chapter 1. While playing it, players can also unlock a new free skin, as well as a victory umbrella, which is a great incentive.
Blitz Royale has been the most popular mode in Fortnite
Despite being out for only two days, Blitz Royale has managed to reach a peak of 443,379 concurrent players. To put it in perspective, Battle Royale’s peak has been around 220,000 in the same players, while Zero Build peaked at 252,000. The new mode has been so popular that its player count has never gone down under 140,000 players since its release.
So far, more than 7 million players have played Blitz Royale, with the average session lasting for almost an hour. Let’s take a look at how this mode has performed against the other two most popular modes between Thursday and Friday:
Mode | Players | Average session time |
---|---|---|
Blitz Royale | 7.3 million | 57 minutes |
Battle Royale | 3.7 million | 42 minutes |
Zero Build | 4.9 million | 59 minutes |

What is also interesting is that Zero Build has been on the rise, nearly surpassing the classic Battle Royale mode this month. On top of this, Fortnite set a new record for this season on Thursday, peaking at 2.9 million concurrent players, mostly thanks to the new mode.
If the trend continues, Blitz Royale will stay at the top, followed by Zero Build and Battle Royale. However, it will be interesting to see how the mode will perform in July. Epic Games intends for the new mode to be temporary, lasting only until July 15. With the surge in player count, this might change, and Blitz Royale may become a permanent game mode.
