Type-Moon Studio BB is a new game development studio set up by Japanese publisher Type-Moon and led by former Dragon Quest Builders director, Kazuya Niinou (via Gematsu).

Kazuya Niinou departed from Square Enix last week, thanking the company, his fellow colleagues, and fans for their support over seven years of service. He will continue to work as external staff for Dragon Quest Builders 2, and said, ‘I felt a little burned out with Builders 2 and wanted to try out a development cycle different from Square Enix, so I set out for a new development environment.’

Type-Moon Studio BB is that new venture. Type-Moon is known for its visual novels, but Studio BB will work on 2D and 3D titles to ‘deliver the charm of the TYPE-MOON world to everyone as a wide variety of games.’ The 2D games will be developed in house, whereas the 3D games are planned to be greater in scale and will use external developer partners. ‘Studio BB is a new studio launched as a new game development initiative for Type-Moon,’ Niinou stated in the announcement on its official website. ‘I hope to cooperate with many creators and publishers, as well as [Type-Moon co-founders] Takashi Takeuchi and Kinoko Nasu.’

Type-Moon Studio BB is currently recruiting programmers, art designers, game designers, and project managers to kickstart development on its new enterprise.
