Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 14 has been heralded as the best MMORPG around, but the brilliant online game has been hit with a number of issues as of late. Every since the middling arrival of Dawntrail, the game hasn’t quite continued its usual path to greatness, instead stumbling along the way.

Fans aren’t the only ones to have noticed this. In fact, FFXIV director and producer Naoki ‘YoshiP’ Yoshida has actually admitted that the game’s “quality of service has declined” over the past year as the team fell into an aura of complacency.

Final Fantasy 14 lead apologises for, well, a lot

Speaking at the Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer LIVE Part LXXXVII livestream, YoshiP apologised to the fanbase for the recent issues plaguing the game. With so many bugs that the team needs “to have an emergency maintenance or a hotfix for”, everyone on board is aware of the issues.

“I’ve been feeling that our quality of service has declined recently,” Yoshida explained in the livestream. “I am very for that… “It feels like we got used to things a bit too much and got comfortable.”

Yoshida explained that the team expanded following the game’s massive success and that growth actually ended up having a negative effect on the studio’s processes. Alongside the aforementioned apology, YoshiP confirmed new content is coming.

“We grew bigger and processes didn’t fully work the way we had intended them to, we want to improve this again,” the Final Fantasy 14 lead explained. “Especially with new and big content we have recently released, this was difficult. We want to keep providing fun and engaging content and we will strive to do better.”

Of course, Final Fantasy 14 isn’t the only MMO suffering from buggy updates and other issues right now. World of Warcraft’s most recent update is its buggiest one in its 20-year history and more MMOs have also suffered. Nevertheless, FF14 is still an amazing MMORPG, and well worth your time, especially with that healthy free trial.
