Road To The Knockouts Upgrades In FIFA 23 Explained
Fortunately, yes! An added dynamic to these cards is that they are upgradeable.
According to EA, these cards get additional upgrades during the group stages. Additionally:
- If their team qualifies for the knockout stages of their competition they will receive an upgrade
- Secondly, if their club wins three out of their four remaining group stage matches in either competition
So, yes. These cards are upgradeable and it’s to noted out that your players that you’ve acquired do not need to play for their club to earn upgrades.
For example if Lionel Messi who may receive a card this Friday wins with PSG an accumulative three times out of four group stage games, he’ll receive one upgrade.
The next possible upgrade he can receive is if PSG proceed to the knockouts which is the second and final one-time upgrade.
What if the players’ team gets knocked out?
If a player gets knocked out from the group stages – they are not eligible for upgrades. Until the player receives his first upgrade for three wins in the group stages he becomes upgradable.
This tailors into the knockouts to which the cards receive another upgrade.
FIFA 23 RTTK Release Date Prediction
At the time of writing these were our predictions:
As mentioned above, the expected release date according to a leak is October 7th, this Friday.
It’s no surprise however that we’re receiving cards around the UEFA Champions League – the group stages are looking to kick off prior to the World Cup.

FIFA 23 Road To The Knockouts Release Time Prediction – when does RTTK release?
As far as we know, the date has been revealed somewhat. However when will RTTK release exactly?
For now, we can look for when the Road To The Knockouts promo released back on FIFA 22:
- Friday 15th October 2021: 6PM BST
- Friday 22nd October 2021: 6PM BST (RTTK Team 2)
From this, the persistent pattern of the release time points towards a 6PM BST launch. This is quite trending by EA to lift new content onto the game around this time.
Going off this, it’s comfortable to predict that the release time for this promo would look to be around 6PM BST / 1PM ET / 10AM PT.

- Leroy Sané (Bayern Munich): One of the competition’s top scorers, Sane scored twice againse Plzen which tallies his goal sheet to four now – being the player with the most, above Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
- Joao Cancelo (Manchester City): An active player for Manchester City currently in the competition, tallying up three assists for the squad, he’s one of the best RBs in the world and deserves an upgrade by EA
- Ousmane Dembele (FC Barcelona): One of the best attacking midfielders in the world, he’s also being spectacular in the competition – tallying two assists currently.
- Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City): One of the best central midfielders in the world, it would be no surprise if EA gives him a surprise card for it’s launch.
