Gajeel Redfox and Juvia Lockser will be playable characters in the new Fairy Tail game, as revealed in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu (via Gematsu).
Developer Gust and publisher Koei Tecmo are currently halfway through development on their Fairy Tail adaptation, that draws inspiration from the ‘middle arc’ of the original anime series. As an RPG, the player will take on the roles of 10 playable characters to rebuild the Guild in Magnolia Town. Combat is turn-based, much like Atelier, and both allies and enemies will use a unique styles in battle. These styles change the effectiveness of magic moves, and so players need to be ‘highly strategic’ to emerge victorious.
In the excerpt from Famitsu, it was revealed that Gajeel Redfox and Juvia Lockser are playable, along with Natsu Dragneel, Lucy Heartfilia, Wendy Marvell, Gray Fullbuster, and Erza Scarlet. The game’s prologue takes place during the Tenrou Island arc and then hops to the Grand Magic Games arc, and now we know that the Tartaros arc is included too. And finally, the magazine showed off a screenshot of a cutscene where Erza Scarlet and Kagura Mikazuchi are battling.

Fairy Tail creator Hiro Mashima is taking a supervisory role in the game’s development, guiding the character appearances and representations, as well as the story direction. It all sounds like very good news so far, and Gust and Koei Tecmo agree. The game isn’t even out yet but they are already thinking about DLC.
Fairy Tail is set to launch for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC in 2020.
