The NHL 23 release is officially underway and there’s plenty to enjoy in EA Sports’ newest hockey game.
The two players on the cover will be Anaheim Ducks phenom Trevor Zegras and Canadian professional hockey and women’s national team member Sarah Nurse.
Sarah Nurse makes history as she is the first woman to ever appear on the cover of an NHL game.

When will NHL 23 be released?
NHL 23 will be featured on the following consoles:
- PlayStation 5
- PlayStation 4
- Xbox Series X/S
- Xbox One
Will NHL 23 have crossplay?
It’s official! NHL 23 will feature crossplay for the first time ever. This will allow matchmaking between players of the same platform generation in World of Chel and Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT). Crossplay will be introduced sometime in November following the release of NHL 23.
NHL 23: New Features
NHL 23 will see the introduction of IIHF Women’s National Teams in HUT. Now both the women’s and men’s players will line up side by side to compete in HUT. Introducing women into the game is a welcome one and celebrates where the sport is heading.
After their introduction last year, national teams will continue to play a prominent role in NHL 23, as national team players will have both base and master items incorporated into HUT events.
NHL 23 also introduced three additional tiers of HUT Rivals Rewards based on win or win streaks.

Will NHL 23 have a closed beta?
NHL 23 did have a closed beta that took place on the 30th of August. Commonly known as the ‘Technical Test’, the NHL 23 beta allowed fans to sign up for a chance to receive a beta code that would grant them limited access over that Labor Day weekend to try out the new game.
The window to participate in the Technical Test has closed. With just a little over two weeks out, expect NHL 23 to start to ramp up its reveal content as the launch date gradually approaches.

When will NHL 23 be released?
NHL 23 was released today, the 14th of October, 2022, at 12AM ET.
Did NHL 23 have a closed beta?
NHL 23 held it’s closed beta known as the ‘Technical Test’ on August 30th, 2022. The beta is now closed.
Is there an early access period for NHL 23?
NHL 23 did have a 3-Day early access period that began on October 11th. That said, early access was only available for fans that pre-ordered the X-Factor Edition of the game.
