Universal is in the early stages of development on a new movie based on the Doom video games, What’s Playing’s Hollywood Insider has said.

According to the report the film will skip over the events of the 2005 movie starring Dwayne Johnson (The Rock), and be a reboot for the franchise. As is the trend, the new film will also be in 3D.

No cast or crew information has been revealed.

After the fairly terrible original attempt at turning the famous video game series into a movie, I can’t say I’m overly enthused about Universal having another stab. With Doom 4 in development, the studio might be able to capitalise on the game’s hype, although if the new film is a bad as the first effort, cinema goers might not want to hand over the cash.
