While appearing on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show earlier today, Jodie Whittaker revealed that a year on from shooting her final scenes as The Thirteenth Doctor, she still feels quite close to the role, as she explained:

Well, you know what, it’s been such an emotional rollercoaster. I finished filming this episode in October last year, so I’ve had a whole year to get my head round leaving, and I’m still not there.”

“I’m still crying about it, I’m still clinging on to the coattail, reluctantly handing over the shoes. I’ve still got a couple of weeks to just, you know, enjoy the moment.”

I think it’s a celebration of it, because you’re so emotional, it was amazing.

When does ‘Doctor Who: The Power of The Doctor’ release?

Update – 12/10/2022:

Following the global premiere last night of ‘The Power of The Doctor’, the official BBC ‘Doctor Who’ Twitter account has confirmed that the special will air at 7.30pm/19:30 on Sunday 23rd October 2022.

Original Text:

At the time of writing, no official release date for the special has been confirmed yet by the BBC, but, at the 2022 Edinburgh International TV Festival, the BBC’s Chief Content Officer, Charlotte Moore, did confirm that the special would air the BBC’s centenary week, stating:

We’ve got a week celebrating our centenary in October, where we’ll have some specials,”

“We’ve got the Doctor Who centenary special.

As the BBC’s Centenary week takes place from the 16th to the 22nd October 2022, the special will air at some point during that week.

Where can I watch ‘Doctor Who: The Power of The Doctor’?

No release plans have been confirmed yet by the BBC, although, given that this special is part of the BBC’s centenary celebrations, it can be safely assumed that UK and Ireland viewers will be able to watch the special on BBC1 and the BBC iPlayer catch-up streaming service right after it airs on BBC1.

US and Canadian viewers will most likely be able to watch the special exclusively on BBC America, while other viewers globally, should they have access to BBC services, should be able to watch the special as well, or watch it on the BBC’s regional broadcast partners for their country.

Also, although nothing has been announced officially yet, it is entirely possible that the BBC and BBC Worldwide will arrange for the special to be broadcast to select theatres globally as part of their centenary celebration and as they have held special theatre screenings over the last few years for key episodes of the modern series.
