Disney is believed to be planning for a Han Solo spin-off trilogy of movies, having put pen to paper on a three picture deal for actor Alden Ehrenreich, insiders have told New York Daily News’ Confidenti@l.

The first Han Solo film is scheduled for May 2018 and will feature the early adventures of a young Han. LEGO movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are helming the feature.

“There is a real sense of excitement around the Han Solo movie and its potential,” reveals the insider. “Given that Han’s early adventures do not need to be tied to the Empire, it leaves story lines open with the opportunity to really give fans something different. They can explore new galaxies and crazy creatures and bring in a wide array of new characters.”

“They feel that his character has the right potential to become a central figure in several movies,” the source added. “They’re keeping things under wraps at the moment, but the deal is that he has signed for at least three movies.”

Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo will follow this December’s release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and December 2017’s Episode VIII.
