Blizzard’s original plan for Diablo 4 was to have paid annual expansions that bring new stories, classes, enemies and sweet, sweet loot. However, following comments from head of Diablo Rod Fergusson and a lack of news from the developer, fans are worried that the annual expansion plan is already over for the ARPG in favour of seasons.

Diablo 4 fans want more expansions

With Diablo 4 seasons now in a good place following the release of the Season of Witchcraft, a large number of players are finally happy with the state of the game’s progression systems. However, with 60% of players immediately jumping ship to the new Spiritborn class on launch of the previous expansion, the hunger for large content drops is obvious.

In a post on the game’s official forums, Diablo 4 players expressed worry that the ARPG’s previously announced expansion plans aren’t actually happening.

“I know Rod [Fergusson] acted like he forgot about their annual expansion plan but will we have any infos or leaks? Or is the annual plan already ditched?” the post reads. “If it works like seasons they should be already in works right? Will we ever play a holy class in a Diablo game? Can we go to Westmarch? Charms? Set items? Class balance and client stability?”

The community’s worries have only been exacerbated since the release of Vessel of Hatred. In a GameSpot interview last year, head of Diablo Rod Fergusson explained that he never technically promised yearly expansions for the game.

“I don’t think I’ve ever said that officially,” he told fans. “We know we’re going to be supporting Diablo for years to come.”

However, players waiting for an update have been left in the dark. While the community has been frequently updated with plans for bug fixing strategies and season release changes, the core expansions that Diablo 4 fans truly care about have been kept secret.

“We’ve gone from an expansion each year to silence in under two years of live game time,” one fan explained on the forums.

Hopefully, Diablo 4 does receive another expansion in the future, one that adds the teased Holy Class included in past artwork. However, we have no idea if this will actually happen. With D4 planned to be properly supported for years to come, it would be a shame if we only had seasons to play through.
