On launch, Diablo 4 did have some decent challenge which was quickly ruined after online complaints forced Blizzard to make the game easier and give out rewards way faster. However, with the arrival of Season 7 Season of Witchcraft, a smidge of challenge has been added back into the game.

Alongside the addition of Witch Doctor powers without the Witch Doctor class, D4’s latest season adds a wealth of new content to play through. Furthermore, players will find themselves actually having to fight one of the game’s newest bosses.

Diablo 4 Season 7 has some bite

It’s no secret that Hard mode is the new normal in Diablo 4, and that difficulty’s balance has been seemingly fine-tuned in Season 7. While you won’t be chugging health potions while kiting hordes of foes like in D2R, some actual strategy and planning is needed again.

After being introduced to your witchcraft powers and facing off against the tanky new Headrotten enemies, you’ll find yourself facing off against the hardest early-game boss yet. Dubbed the Enraged Headless Husk, this boss will actually have you smiling as you attempt to chip through his defensive barrier before you can do real damage.

It’s an early game gear check and a good judgment for how well-tuned your class skills are in the early game. Best of all, it’s an actual challenge, and it can kick your ass if you’re expecting the cakewalk of base game Diablo 4, it’s awesome.

We’re not saying it’s like fighting Nightmare Duriel in Diablo 2, but it’s better than most updates D4 has seen. With Diablo 4 pitched as a return to the skilful, difficult style of Diablo 2, this is an awesome indicator of the game’s future. Please, Blizzard, keep going in this direction.

Fans love it too

Of course, no one trusts a games journo, but they do trust the words of subreddit users. Thankfully, we’re not the only ones praising Diablo 4 Season 7 with many fans also enjoying the additional challenge.

In a post on the Diablo 4 subreddit, players have praised the long-awaited arrival of some much-needed challenge.

“Was pretty awesome, [I] wish more encounters would be of that difficulty,” one fan wrote. “I enjoy the challenge and it’s nice to actually have to think and prepare for fights,” said another.

One fan explained that they actually have to think about their movement now, a shocking indictment of the state of Diablo 4’s normal difficulties. The consensus is that the difficulty of Season 7 is “fresh and exciting” and actually has players engaging in its base mechanics.

“I barely touched my heal potions last season,” one fan explained. “Today I was downing them like Luke Skywalker at a sea sow farm.”

There are also a lot of players unhappy with the rise in difficulty for Diablo 4 Season of Witchcraft, but I like it and so do the handful of Reddit commenters I put in this article. Keep it up, Blizzard.
