With fans already talking about a potential Diablo 5 following the disappointing Diablo 4 2025 roadmap, Blizzard wants fans to know they’re in for the “long haul”. After a rocky start, General Manager of Diablo Rod Fergusson has confirmed there’s a “10-year roadmap” internally developed for the game’s future.

Diablo 4 has a ten-year roadmap

Speaking to Stephen Totillo at Game File, Fergusson confirmed that the studio is focused on keeping Diablo 4 around for the “long haul”. While a fifth game may happen eventually, the current game should have its own decade of life just like its predecessor.

“We’re here for the long haul. We’ve been doing long-range planning recently,” Fergusson said. “And I’ve created a roadmap—a 10-year roadmap…it was actually a 12-year [roadmap]—I can see this, this, this and this and all these different things that we can do, [which] is really inspiring. And it’s really exciting.”

Fergusson also explained that the future of the game’s post-launch support will focus on what players want. Hopefully, that will mean less of a focus on seasons and more focus on developing content that exists outside of seasonal releases, but nothing has been confirmed.

“We’re focused on what players want…I can’t tell you much more than that,” the general manager said.

Diablo 4’s post-launch plans have changed rapidly since release. Blizzard has already dropped the plan for annual expansions with the next expansions coming in 2026, and there are also plans to heavily revise the battle pass system to make it less “antiquated” in the future.

Both Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 were games that lasted a decade each, and Diablo 4 deserves its own era as well. Hopefully, Blizzard will make the right decision and fix some of the game’s fundamental issues to keep the game engaging for the so-called “long haul”.
