Publisher Playtonic Friends has announced that platforming adventure Demon Turf will launch on November 4.

The game promises a twist on the traditional Mario 64 formula by using 2D sprites in a 3D world. You’ll play the role of Beebz, a 1000 year old demon who is seeking to take over the demon world. To do so, she’ll have to fight through various demon hordes to claim their turf, before taking on the Demon King himself.

Interestingly enough, it’s trying some other unique features too. These include self-placed checkpoints, allowing you to prep for a challenging section by placing one before you start. You’ll also be able to replay previously beaten levels to find them in a new “liberated” state, with changes across the level.

It’s also worth noting that your attacks aren’t actually lethal on their own. Instead, you’ll use the game’s physics-based combat system to actually finish off foes, sending them into hazards to deal the killing blow. There’s also a wealth of side-content promised, including a gallery you’ll fill with locations and characters. Elsewhere Demon Turf also offers 25 arena challenges, 10 “Demon Soccer Golf” courses and even 8 cartridges to find. These unlock special “remixed throwback” versions of levels that honour 3D platformers of the past.

You can check out a trailer for the game below. Demon Turf is set to launch on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC on November 4.  A special demo version of the game—Demon Turf: Trials is also available right now via Steam.
