In a statement given to Eurogamer, Deep Silver has said that Dead Island 2 is definitely still being made.

The full, but brief, statement reads:

‘Dead Island 2 is in development at Sumo Digital, and we are excited by the progress the team are making with Deep Silver’s most successful IP. When we are ready to share more information, we will.’

Sumo Digital took over development of the sequel to 2011’s Dead Island in 2015, after Deep Silver ended partnership with Yager. Dead Island 2 was originally scheduled to release in 2015, before being delayed to 2016 and then passed to Sumo.

Not that we want to be grumpy gills or anything, but a game getting shuffled around to new developers isn’t usually a stellar sign for the end product. Deep Silver seems pretty up beat, though. But then it would, wouldn’t it?

Anyway, here’s that first trailer for the original Dead Island. Remember how great we all thought it was?
