Arrowhead’s latest Helldivers 2 update added the brilliant “Entrenching Tool”, allowing players to carve out holes to hide in during—or before—combat. With a new focus on digging, developers from dwarven mining game Deep Rock Galactic have called for an official crossover with their popular co-op game.
Deep Rock Galactic x Helldivers 2
After the release of the latest major HD2 update, fans have used the new Entrenching Tool to dig massive holes, draw dongs in the sand of bug planets and more. While there are loads of games known for their digging mechanics—like Minecraft to name some small indie game—fans have drawn comparisons to Deep Rock Galactic, a game that has you digging holes while fighting hordes of space insects.
In a post on Twitter (or X, if you’re like that), Deep Rock Galactic’s official account teased a possible crossover between the two franchises in the future. While Arrowhead has recently turned down an official Warhammer 40K crossover, maybe we could dive with dwarve-themed armour in the future.
“Maybe they are looking for a crossover?” the official account tweeted in response to a viral Helldivers 2 video.
Helldivers 2 developers have been keen to add crossovers into the game, as long as they make sense for the game’s universe. At the time of writing, the game has only has one official crossover in the form of PlayStation’s Killzone. While that crossover was well-received eventually, Arrowhead has apologised for its handling of the crossover’s release.
For future collaborations, the Helldivers 2 developer has shut down fan expectations of crossovers based on major IP like Star Wars, which leaves space for some smaller, maybe Dwarven-themed collaborations in the future. For our money, we’re still hoping for an official Halo crossover.
