Death Stranding 2 is finally here! The early access release time countdown is almost over for Deluxe edition pre-orders, meanwhile, everyone opting for the Standard edition only need to wait a little bit longer. Reviews have come out, and the unanimous belief is that DS2 is a marvel. In our review, we have given the game a 9/10, praising its open-world, story, and incredible depth. This glowing sentiment is shared by other outlets as Death Stranding 2 has smashed the first game’s Metacritic score to cement itself as one of 2025’s best games so far.
Death Stranding 2 Metacritic reviews smash first game
On Metacritic, Death Stranding 2 has a received an overall score of 90. This is based on 91 reviews as of writing, so it’s possible the score could slightly change as more reviews come out. It’s a massive improvement over the first game which received an 82, as well as the Director’s Cut which received an 85.
The 90 score positions DS2 as one of the top 10 best games of 2025. On Metacritic’s web page, DS2 is currently positioned in sixth place. The three leading best new games of 2025 so far are Split Fiction at 91, Blue Prince at 92, and Clair Obscur Expedition 33 at 93.
While Death Stranding 2, Split Fiction, Blue Prince, and Clair Obscur Expedition 33 are the four best entirely new releases of 2025 so far, Metacritic’s webpage has Zelda’s Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild positioned first and second because of their technical rereleases for the Nintendo Switch 2.
