Trust Ryan Reynolds to announce the first ever ‘Deadpool’ MCU movie in both the most casual, tongue in cheek (check him out with that long pour of gin advertising his Aviation American Gin brand) way. So, let’s break down everything we know about the movie from this announcement trailer, and the social media reactions to it, which included a tweet from a well known Hollywood Director seemingly teasing/confirming that he’s directing the movie.

Latest News

12/10/2022:

The Walt Disney Company have officially confirmed that ‘Deadpool 3’ has been moved from it’s originally announced release date of 6th September 2024 to its new release date of 8th November 2024.

This move in release date comes as a result of Marvel Studio’s planned ‘Blade’ movie starring Mahershala Ali in the titular role moving from its previously announced planned release date of 3rd November 2023 to 6th September 2024. This move comes as a direct result of the delay in production on the movie due to its director, Bassim Tariq’s, departure from the production.

From no news to suddenly there being news, seemingly, every hour, on ‘Deadpool 3’. Here is the latest tweet from Director, Shawn Levy, further confirming that he will be directing the movie:

It’s not even been 24 hours and Ryan Reynolds is already teasing us some more about ‘Deadpool 3’, enlisting Hugh Jackman to fully participate in his shenanigans this time, as shown in the brand new video below:

Ryan Reynold’s ‘Deadpool 3’ announcement led to a mountain of comments and reactions across his social media pages. But, it was his Twitter page that garnered the most interesting news in reaction to the announcement. As fellow actor, John Krasinski (The Office US, Jack Ryan, A Quiet Place), tweeted out the below response to Reynolds’ announcement tweet:

Now, could this be a cryptic tease of Krasinski reprising his “Multiverse of Madness” role as the Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards for ‘Deadpool 3’?

Sadly, the answer is most likely no (although, never say never), as Krasinski appears to be referring to his next movie as Director, ‘Imaginary Friends‘. Which is set to star Reynolds and Kransinski alongside acting legend, Louis Gosset Jr (Roots, An Officer and a Gentleman, Toy Soldiers), Fiona Shaw (True Blood, Killing Eve, Andor), Steve Carrell (Little Miss Sunshine, Foxcatcher, The Big Sleep,) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Crashing, Fleabag, Solo: A Star Wars Movie).

However, it wasn’t long before Krasinski’s tweet was followed up by the below tweet from Director, Shawn Levy (Real Steel, Stranger Things, Free Guy), seemingly confirming that he will be directing ‘Deadpool 3’, making it his third collaboration in recent years with Reynolds after directing him in ‘Free Guy‘, and ‘The Adam Project‘:

When is ‘Deadpool 3’ out?

Update – 12/10/2022:

The Walt Disney Company have officially confirmed that ‘Deadpool 3’ has been moved from it’s originally announced release date of 6th September 2024 to its new release date of 8th November 2024.

This move in release date comes as a result of Marvel Studio’s planned ‘Blade’ movie starring Mahershala Ali in the titular role moving from its previously announced planned release date of 3rd November 2023 to 6th September 2024. This move comes as a direct result of the delay in production on the movie due to its director, Bassim Tariq’s, departure from the production.

Original Text:

As confirmed in Ryan Reynolds’ announcement teaser for the movie, it is due for release on 6th September 2024.

Where can I watch the movie?

While not officially confirmed yet, it’s highly likely that the movie will release, initially, exclusively in theatres, and then when its theatrical run has ended, it will see its home video release, which is also likely to include streaming exclusively on the Disney+ streaming service.

‘Deadpool 3’ story?

Nothing has been officially announced yet about the story and there are no rumours, as yet, either about what it may be.

Although, given the movie’s release date, which puts it firmly in “The Multiverse Saga” currently taking place across the MCU. It feels highly likely that the movie will be in some way tied to the MCU multiverse, and likely involve Deadpool meeting heroes and villains from across the various Marvel properties, including, potentially, Sony’s Spider-Man universe.

In addition, based on the ending of “Deadpool 2”, and comments made by Reynolds after that movie’s release. It is also entirely possible that we could see Wade and Vanessa’s child in the movie, showing a new side to our favourite sometimes hero as he navigates being a mercenary and a father.

‘Deadpool 3’ cast?

Beyond Reynolds returning as “The Merc with a Mouth”, and Hugh Jackman, seemingly, reprising the role of Wolverine once more, no other cast members or potential cast members have been confirmed or rumoured yet for the movie.

However, based on the previous two ‘Deadpool’ movies, we can certainly guess at some of the previous cast members/characters most likely to return:

Josh Brolin returning as Cable

Morena Baccarin returning as Vanessa

Zazie Beetz returning as Domino

Leslie Uggams returning as Blind Al

Karan Soni returning as Dopinder

Brianna Hildebrand returning as Negasonic Teenage Warhead

Shioli Kutsuna returning as Yukio

Stefan Kapicic returning as Colossus
