Dead By Daylight has a massive community, and it is a popular game within the streaming landscape on platforms such as Twitch. Similar to most other multiplayer games, BeHaviour Interactive want to improve the experience as much as possible by removing cheaters. There are accusations that some DBD players have been wrongfully banned because of hackers, and a BeHaviour Interactive developer has responded.

There is a lot for Dead By Daylight fans to enjoy during November. Right now you will want to make sure you are eligible for compensation coming from BeHaviour soon, and you will also want to redeem the currently active November 2024 codes for Bloodpoints and charms. In addition, make sure to check out the November 2024 roadmap to see everything announced so far.

While there will be a lot to enjoy later this month with the return of 2v8 and the Chapter 34 PTB, right now there is some concern online that players have been wrongfully banned.

Dead By Daylight dev responds to accusations of wrongfully banning players

Dead By Daylight YouTuber, Choy, uploaded a video on October 30th titled “BHVR lied to us about hackers…“. The video discusses how BeHaviour was previously tricked by some hackers into wrongfully permabanning legitimate players and streamers who were doing nothing wrong.

BeHaviour acknowledged their mistakes, and some of the affected streamers had their permabans removed. During an AMA on Reddit, BeHaviour promised that they are “reviewing our processes to prevent such incidents in the future”.

Unfortunately, Choy reports that since the AMA more players have received unjustified permabans. The claim is that hackers are to blame again, meaning BeHaviour Interactive has not implemented a “process to prevent such incidents” as promised.

In the video, Choy discusses how this makes him not want to play the game in fear that his thousands of hours and money spent on DLC and cosmetics could just be wiped out of reality through negligence by someone at BeHaviour.

Choy’s video was shared onto the BeHaviour Interactive forums, and DBD community manager, Mandy, responded to the accusations. The community manager posted, “With regards to the video in question – sorry but the information is not accurate. Hackers do not get players banned for impersonating their accounts, this isn’t something that happens and this is not the reason why bans occurred. You can also not get banned for someone randomly cheating in the game, and it making it look like you were the cheat”.

In response to Mandy, Choy has uploaded a video titled “BHVR says I’m a liar…“. This video discusses how players have been falsely banned because of hackers, and it also argues that the appeal process is unfit for purpose as the average joe is unlikely to get their permaban removed, especially compared to someone with a following on social media.

Hopefully BeHaviour can find a better “process” for identifying and banning actual hackers as cheaters are commonly complained about within the DBD community. In addition, false permabans are a scary thought, so it is something that definitely needs to stop happening.
