DBD developer Behaviour Interactive has announced that it has canceled ‘Project T’ after initial insider testing “yielded unsatisfactory overall results.” The now-scrapped PvE mode was initially announced in May. Soon after, it began playtesting through its Insider Program, where players could join and potentially try out an early project build so the developers could quickly gather feedback and implement it accordingly.

Behaviour revealed its cancellation through a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “When we conceptualized Project T, we wanted to have players involved in it as early as possible, which led to the creation of the Insiders Program. This approach has allowed us to get very early validation on the project’s core design and gameplay, which is something that often comes much further into the production of a game.”

“Following the playtests in July, we ran a thorough internal risk assessment from a product and commercial perspective,” its statement continued. “While a number of players expressed appreciation for what they played, unfortunately, the outcome of this deep analysis yielded unsatisfactory overall results. It’s with a heavy heart that we announce that Project T has been canceled. We want to thank you for your support throughout this journey.”

Based on a few playtester comments below Behaviour’s announcement, it seems some players found Project T to be “very generic” and that “there was nothing [the developers] really talked about in [their] teasers that [made it] stand out or fun.” Of course, since footage of these playtests likely won’t be seeing the light of day anymore, those left on the outside looking in are left to wonder at the possibilities and potential that only a DBD PvE mode could have brought about.
