One of the most exciting launch titles for the Nintendo Switch 2 is CD Projekt Red’s upcoming port of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition. Bringing the awesome base game and its Phantom Liberty expansion to the handheld with DLSS support, the RPG will have a new home on the Nintendo portable.
With the game available on PC handhelds such as the Steam Deck, ROG Ally and many others, there are a lot of ways to play the first-person RPG on the go. However, CDPR’s vice president of technology Charles Tremblay explains that this new port is hands-down the best way to play.
Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2 is the way to play
Speaking on Nintendo’s new Creator’s Voice video, Tremplay explained that the new Switch 2 port is a brilliant way to experience the RPG.
“It’s still the same amazing experience, and I think the returning players will feel right at home,” the developer said. “We do have a lot of ways to experience the game using the controllers. We have the new amazing LCD screens with the VRR support, and I do think it’s the best way to experience the game on the go.”
Despite having issues running on the last-gen PS4 and Xbox One consoles, the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077 appears mostly stable with some space left for improvement. While there are some performance issues in the current unreleased build, it’s a great sign for early support of the system.
Nevertheless, Tremplay admits that the game still needs to be “seamless” which can be “very challenging” without proper optimsation.
Cyberpunk 2077 on the handheld is one of the most intensive games announced for the new Nintendo handheld. While Star Wars Outlaws has also been announced for the system, early gameplay clips of the unreleased title leave a lot to be desired.
CD Projekt Red’s RPG has often been a benchmark for handhelds such as the Steam Deck. While we haven’t had the opportunity to play the new version ourselves, just looking at gameplay shows a far better experience than the Steam Deck offers. As someone who’s played many hours of the game on the Valve handheld, it’s not as great an experience as some people hype up.
