The PSN controversy rocked Helldivers 2 earlier this year and began the downward spiral that the game has struggled to get out of after 180 countries were blocked from playing the game. This led to the game being mass review bombed by the community, causing Arrowhead Game Studios to acknowledge it and claim they were going to commemorate the moment with a cape to reward players for standing up to Sony. But three months on the cape is nowhere to be seen.

U/brintik08 took to the Helldivers 2 sub-Reddit to question where the review bomb cape is and whether Arrowhead Game Studios is ever going to release it following the release of a new free armor set to celebrate the Escalation of Freedom update. Other players took to the replies to share their thoughts, with u/Aaron_768 pointing out that “They had their chance and wasted it. I personally don’t care about that now. Some newer players won’t even get it, yet they will get the cape.”

It does seem as though the review bomb cape won’t be released now, and it has lost its meaning. A reason for this could be due to the 180 blocked countries still being unable to play, nor are likely ever going to be. This means that there isn’t really any victory to celebrate which could have led to Arrowhead deciding to pull the cosmetic. But, players will be granted a free armor set tomorrow to commemorate the Escalation of Freedom update and Freedom’s Flame Warbond.

So far, the Escalation of Freedom update has caused some backlash due to the nerfing of fire weapons such as the Flamethrower, which comes just before the fire-themed Warbond, which doesn’t make much sense.
