The Cloud will free up Xbox One's computing power to focus on making the graphics look better, Turn 10 creative director Dan Greenawalt has told OXM.

As much as 20 per cent of the processing power that would usually be taken by AI routines could be made available to improve other elements of games.

"When you've got a learning neural network, more computing power is nothing but helpful. Because what you're able to do is process a lot more information, and you don't have to do it in realtime on the box," explained Greenawalt. "And that frees up more of the box to be doing graphics or audio or other computational areas."

He added: "So we can now make our AI instead of just being 20%, 10% of the box's capability, we can make it 600% of the box's capability. Put it in the cloud and free up that 10% or 20% to make the graphics better - on a box that's already more powerful than we worked on before."

Forza Motorsport 5 will be released in November alongside the Xbox One.

So whilst The Cloud won't have a direct impact on the quality of visuals, as PS4 architect Mark Cerny has said, it will free up resources which can then be utilised to boost other game elements, such as the graphics.
