Ninja Theory has released some more screens for Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, in advance of its August 8 release. Considering the subject matter at hand and the psychological troubles that Senua is dealing with, the game does look to be shaping up rather nicely.

A third-person action game inspired by Celtic and Norse mythology, Hellblade tells the story of Senua, a Celtic warrior who is traumatised following a brutal Viking invasion. As a player you follow her journey ‘into a vision of hell that is the manifestation of her own mental illness’. It’s Ninja Theory’s attempt to explore mental health and psychosis.

The game is being developed by Ninja Theory, who’ve described it as an ‘Independent AAA’, combining the creative freedom of indie development with the production values of a blockbuster title. Colour me intrigued then.

Hellblade is out on August 8 for PS4 and PC.
