Castlevania: Lords of Shadow developer MercurySteam will be making a "major announcement" in April, the studio has teased.
A countdown on the developer's website points towards an announcement at 5pm BST on Friday, April 15, although it isn't yet clear what the game may be. It is not expected to be a new title in the Castlevania series, however, with an earlier tease on the studio's website pointing towards the possibility of a sci-fi game.
New images released by the developer (below) point toward something entirely new, too, revealing a muscular figure with a glowing orange eye socket and what appears to be an ancient tomb in a desert, possibly alien world.
Lords of Shadow producer Dave Cox, meanwhile, who left Konami in 2014, will be working with MercurySteam as a consultant and external producer, with his LinkedIn profile describing the game as the studio's "next AAA hit".
"When I was approached by MercurySteam to get involved in their new project, I jumped at the chance," said Cox. "It's been my great fortune and pleasure to work with this talented studio over many years. I'm extremely excited about this very ambitious work they're undertaking. MercurySteam continue to push boundaries and their sheer creative spirit always astounds me. It's great to be back with my old team mates!"
Enric Alvarez, Studio Head and Owner at MercurySteam commented "Making games is a real passion for us and we enjoy tackling huge challenges," added studio head Enric Alvarez. "We've worked with Dave over many years and his passion and enthusiasm coupled with years of experience will give us a strong foundation for what will be our most ambitious undertaking as an independent studio."
