Resident Evil 7’s marketing director Antoine Molant has expressed his confidence in the game’s quality, saying that he’d love the game to score “only nines or tens” upon its release next month, but that he’s “sure we’ll see a few eights as well”.

“We’d love to have only nines or tens, but I’m sure we’ll see a few eights as well,” he said, speaking in the latest issue of MCV. “We’re very confident in terms of the quality. Commercially, it’s probably the biggest Capcom game we are releasing on the new machines.”

Pre-orders for the game are already “very good”, Molant says, with the January release date providing a “really nice window” of opportunity. The game is said to be targeting 4 million sales on day one.

But despite the different release windows (Resident Evil 6 launched in a more crowded October window), Resident Evil 7’s marketing push will be “similar or probably higher” than that of the last game, Molant adds.

“The tone will be different, the imagery will be different,” he said. “But in terms of where you put your investment and budget, or how big it is, it’s pretty similar.”

Resident Evil 7 launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC on January 24, 2017. The game’s demo, which had previously been exclusive to PS4, arrives on Xbox One today and PC later this month.
