Warzone 1, CoD’s initial battle royale entry released in 2020, was taken offline at 8AM PT on November 16th, 2022 following the release of Warzone 2. The previous game’s launch brought a fresh new take to the popular player-filled and action-packed match type.

Even though the new follow-up title is available, veteran players are wondering if the original installment can still be played. Here’s all that we know about the current status of Warzone 1.

Is Warzone 1 Still Playable?

Warzone 1 is still playable since it has been re-released under its new title, Warzone Caldera. This relaunched installment is available on all platforms, including the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and the PC. Keep in mind that you’ll only be able to play this installment if you have Modern Warfare downloaded and installed.

Caldera is a separate game from Warzone 2 and allows players to carry over their progression from the previous Warzone. This includes player progression, cross-progression for XP and weapon XP, Battle Pass content, and weapons among other things. Players can now take part in a standard Battle Royale Playlist that is similar to what was offered before.

It’s important to note, though, that content purchased in Warzone 2 and MW2 will not be usable in Caldera. Similarly, XP and Weapon XP boosters will not be transferrable between battle royale games.

Further, both Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep maps will not be playable in Warzone Caldera. However, it’s currently unclear if the developers will include these maps in a future update. As a final note, their post promises exciting developments in the future for Warzone 2.

How Long Will Warzone 1 Last?

With Warzone 2’s arrival, some might be wondering how long Warzone 1 will last? Seeing the majority of the fanbase departed for the new battle royale game mode, it certainly begs the question if Warzone 1 will end at some point. For the time being, there’s been no official word from either Infinity Ward or Raven Software about Warzone 1 ending or discontinuing this year, or anytime in the future for that matter.

However, with the arrival of the Ashika Resurgence Island and continuous revamped gameplay and feature updates in Warzone 2, it’s hard not to wonder if Warzone 1 has an expiration date looming ahead. With the original battle royale mode only detracting from the potential Warzone 2 could be capitalizing on, along with the unknown arrival of Warzone Mobile later this year, Warzone 1 could continue to fall by the wayside.

That said, Call of Duty has not announced anything on the matter so far. So for now, you can still very much enjoy the Caldera experience on Warzone 1. Be sure to stay tuned here though for any updates on the matter should the status of Warzone 1 change.
