The Call of Duty franchise is no stranger to joining forces with the world of TV and movies. Activision’s shooter series has previously collaborated with the likes of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Boys, and Saw to give players a chance to get their hands on exclusive skins and cosmetic items.
Black Ops 6’s cycle is in its infancy but as Season 1 Reloaded moves into view, the publisher has unveiled the first crossover promotion with hit Netflix show Squid Game along with its highly anticipated release date.
Black Ops 6 x Squid Game collab confirmed
On December 2, 2024, the Call of Duty X account uploaded a short trailer to unveil the promotion. An operator is standing inside a dark room holding the infamous card displaying a circle, triangle, and square. Squid Game’s ominous music then starts to play while a themed Call of Duty logo features before a January 2025 release date is revealed.
The exact details of what the collaboration has in store have yet to be revealed leaving fans curious as to how the show will be integrated across multiplayer and Warzone. Considering there’s a huge selection of morally questionable games in the show, perhaps a limited-time ‘Red Light, Green Light’ mode is on its way?
As with all Call of Duty crossovers, you can expect plenty of skins, weapon blueprints, and more to arrive. However, there’s a high chance of these skins requiring you to spend some hard-earned CoD Points to stand out from the crowd on your favourite maps and game modes.
The start of many crossovers
Call of Duty crossing over with Squid Game is likely to be the first of many collaborations with other franchises throughout the cycle. Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, the rumoured Halo collab continues to excite fans as they patiently wait for Master Chief and Frank Woods to dominate the battlefield.
For the time being, Squid Game is another huge name for Call of Duty to add to its ever-expanding list of franchises that have appeared within its games. Activision loves its micro-transactions and this particular crossover is guaranteed to generate huge revenue as fans of the show look to kit out their Operators from characters of the show.
