The new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot will not be sold on the PlayStation store in Russia, as reported by DTF.RU.
The PlayStation beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer kicked off yesterday, however, not everyone has been able to get stuck in. Rumors that the game will not be released in Russia have been swirling for some time, as the physical Modern Warfare edition has not appeared in Russian retail stores.
Today, a screenshot of a Sony support email circulated, and said that Modern Warfare would not be coming to the Russian PlayStation Network. DTF.RU reached out to Sony to confirm the news. According to the call, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been withdrawn from sale by Activision. The representative also said that it would not be returning to the Russian store at any point in the future, and all pre-orders will be refunded.
Regarding sale of the game on the Xbox store and Battle.net, ‘circumstances are being clarified’, but it does seem as though it will receive the same fate. Russian media outlets criticised the first Modern Warfare trailer for its depiction of the Syria Civil Defence volunteer faction. The Syria Civil Defence organisation have opposed Russian military activity in Syria and targeted it with a systematic information warfare campaign that accused it of funding terrorist groups.
So not only will Russian players skip out on the multiplayer beta, they won’t be able to purchase the game on PlayStation at all. Russian Operator Minotaur was revealed yesterday, but presumably he will still stick about.
