Call of Duty’s online stat-tracking service Call of Duty: Elite is to shut down this Friday, February 28, Activision has confirmed.
The service will be replaced by a Call of Duty app for Call of Duty: Ghosts.
Call of Duty: Elite was introduced in 2011 alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, launching as both a free and premium service that let users track their statistics, edit their loadouts, compete in challenges and watch exclusive videos.
The service was supported by both Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops 2, but was dropped for last year’s Call of Duty: Ghosts.
“There are no plans to bring Call of Duty Elite back,” says Activision. “We encourage fans to download the Call of Duty app for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which allows players to customize their multiplayer character and weapons loadouts on the go, keep track of their Call of Duty: Ghosts stats, and features Call of Duty Clan Wars, where players can compete for cool, exclusive in-game gear.”
Any videos created for Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops 2 using Elite will still be accessible via players’ personal YouTube accounts, although clan support “will no longer be accessible or function through Call of Duty Elite”.
As a farewell bonus, Call of Duty: Elite Founders who have logged in to the service since January 1, 2014 will also receive two hours’ worth of Double XP for Call of Duty: Ghosts.
This year’s Call of Duty is currently in development at Modern Warfare 3 co-developer Sledgehammer Games.
