We all knew this would happen. Only a year after the release of Burnout 3 and we get a new version. To think people said being owned by EA wouldn’t make any difference…

In a move that is set to make Burnout another yearly franchise, (keeping the same mold as well, practically every other EA game) we’ll see a new Criterion title at E3 this year. We’ve been promised that the game will “let gamers rip through rush hour traffic and lay waste to scores of rubbernecking roadhogs in an over-the-top scene of vehicular mayhem.”. So, much of the same then. The only other piece of info is the new ‘Revenge’ mode, which will apparently allow gamers “to battle the clock and unleash their frustrations on rush hour traffic.”. Quite.

The biggest concern with the new emphasis on these yearly updates is that the game will start to feel increasingly diluted, mainly due to the reduced development time. It would be very sad to see such a great franchise going this way. Though we’ll be sure to give you a first hand preview of the game when we see it at E3.
