Call of Duty’s Zombies mode has quickly become the most popular during the Black Ops 6 cycle thanks to regular updates and the arrival of fresh content. While multiplayer and Warzone continue struggling, the latest iteration of round-based Zombies is thriving with Treyarch keeping the new-found momentum rolling throughout each post-launch season.
115 day celebrates all things to do with Call of Duty Zombies. Alongside sharing initial intel on The Tomb, Black Ops 6’s fourth Zombies map, the developer also teased the return of an iconic Wonder Weapon from a previous game, leaving fans excited to hear more.
Are Elemental Staffs returning in Black Ops 6?
To mark the occasion, Treyarch published a detailed blog post covering a variety of Zombie-focused topics. Underneath a picture of a fan-made Staff of Ice, the developer teased it could be making its long-awaited return.

“Here’s another incredible fan-made version of the Staff of Ice, which we’re definitely not highlighting for any particular reason, other than the quality of the craftsmanship on display,” writes Treyarch.
The Staff of Ice is one of four Elemental Staffs that are available to craft in the Origins map from Black Ops 3. Armed with the ability to shoot ice blasts, players can slow the movements of nearby undead threats in addition to watching them freeze completely and break into millions of tiny pieces.
Nostalgia is a tactic often used by Call of Duty to bring players back into the action or to keep them engaged with the existing offering. Combining an iconic Wonder Weapon with the arrival of a brand-new map is the best of both.
When are Elemental Staffs returning?
It’s unclear when the Staff of Ice or other Elemental Staffs are returning in Black Ops 6 Zombies. Considering the information was included alongside the announcement of The Tomb, many believe January 28th, 2025, is when fans can freeze the undead once again.
The success of Black Ops 6 Zombies has kept Treyarch’s game ticking over as fans decide to ditch multiplayer and the battle royale. It’s great to see a once-forgotten mode become Call of Duty’s primary focus once again.
