Black Ops 6 is being ripped apart for its horrendous spawns, which often sees players reappear in front of another player, only to be gunned down again. Despite none of the multiplayer maps being particularly small or complicated, COD players are still finding themselves spawning in the middle of a killzone without any time to put up a decent fight.

In classic small maps like Modern Warfare’s Shipment, a bout of spawn-killing is part of the fun. However, in standard multiplayer, where you want time to breathe, it’s incredibly frustrating, and Black Ops 6 is a prime candidate for some of the worst launch spawns in series history. Move over, Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Spawn, die, spawn die, spawn die, spawn die

At the time of writing, Black Ops 6 often sees players stuck in a ‘deathloop’ of spawning, dying and respawning again. Having played the game extensively over the weekend, VideoGamer can confirm the spawns are some of the worst for years, not helped by the pretty uninspiring batch of launch maps.

Often on the Rewind map, I would spawn in what initially seemed like a safe zone, only for someone to immediately run around a corner and blast me. The issue seems particularly prevalent in Payback, one of the game’s smaller maps set in and around a large mansion. Here, you’ll often spawn within yards of an enemy, with some areas near the outhouses at the edge of the play area having particularly nasty spawn rates.

Call of Duty has often suffered from rather rancid spawning, even in some of its best entries. However, Black Ops 6 on launch is one of the worst coming equal with the atrocious spawns of 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts. However, judging from how fast the poor spawns of launch-day Modern Warfare 3 were fixed, the new CoD should have better spawns after a few updates.

The maps arent even that small, it’s like they just forgot how to make a spawn system.

“The maps arent even that small, it’s like they just forgot how to make a spawn system,” wrote one BLOPS player on the COD sub-Reddit. “Worst I’ve had is spawning next to my dead body in time to watch it hit the ground and then be killed by the same guy before I could react…” wrote another.

A likely factor that exacerbates this issue is just how fast and chaotic Black Ops 6 feels – especially in Free For All. Movement is twitchy, gamers are encouraged to Tactical Sprint as standard, which we’d suggest turning off, while Omnimovement results in multiplayer matches looking like a John Woo parody. You rarely get a moment to think tactics, as within seconds you’ll encounter another player. From my experience so far on a handful of the maps, there’s also only a few viable camping spots – with many obvious locations designed to have vulnerable points.

The good news is that there will likely be a patch to this. The Call of Duty titles have a number of updates throughout the cycle, addressing weapon imbalances and issues with gameplay, so we’re sure this spawning gripe will be addressed. It also hasn’t stopped the game breaking internet records, despite hundreds running into one of many of the BLOPS error codes.
