Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is only a few weeks away from launch. As with every yearly installment, the community is massively anticipating the newest entry in the CoD series. While the Call of Duty games have infamously huge file sizes, Activision has assured players that Black Ops 6 will be a “smaller download” than Modern Warfare 3.

Remember that the Black Ops 6 release date is October 25th. It will be on Xbox Game Pass from day one for the first time in the series’ history, and it is launching with huge changes to multiplayer based on feedback from the betas. Before its launch, you can get free Operator skins, CoD points, XP, and more, but you will need to be quick.

We cannot wait for the new Call of Duty to come out, but there is always a sense of dread about how large the file size will be to download. Activision hasn’t revealed the specifics, but, at the very least, BO6 should be smaller than MW3.

Black Ops 6 will be “smaller download” than Modern Warfare 3

In their optimizing Black Ops 6 roadmap, Activision stated that BO6 will be a “smaller download” at launch than Modern Warfare 3. The exact file size and final specs haven’t been shared as of yet, but this is at least some positive news.

There were concerns earlier in the year that BO6 was going to be 300GB. However, Activision quickly clarified the situation on X where they revealed that the estimated 300GB shown on the Microsoft pre-order page included the “full installations of Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Warzone and all relevant content packs, including all localized languages combined which is not representative of a typical player install experience”.

At launch, you will be able download Black Ops 6 without any of the other Call of Duty experiences. Again, no singular file size has been revealed for BO6 yet.

In addition to this news, Activision has a new user-interface on the way for Call of Duty HQ. This will become available “mid-October”.

Per Activision, “The new user interface will introduce a Call of Duty landing zone where top content will be visible on one clean page without needing to scroll… [it] will feature our most recent annual title and Call of Duty: Warzone for ease of access. Other Call of Duty titles can be accessed via your games library or the ‘Last Played’ tile if that is the game you played last”.

Finally, “there will be a transition period when the new landing page goes live before Black Ops 6 launches. During this time, Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Warzone will be the featured titles and players will need to cross-launch into each of those games”.
